This thread has been dyed a soft yellow with a greenish undertone using wild carrot tops and an alum mordant. Both domesticated and wild carrot flowering tops (Daucus carota) give yellow dye. Neither are native to the Americas, so wild carrot, also called Queen Anne's Lace, is a great dye to forage (as long as you know enough not to confuse it with toxic giant hogweed!) in North America.
This 2-ply thread can be used for to work various types of embroidery (plies NOT separable as with DMC or similar!), weaving narrow goods, eg, tablet weaving, or tapestry, at approx. 30 ends per inch, and also for braiding techniques such as fingerloop or lucet, and other historical and modern fiber arts.
The Golden Schelle is on hiatus in order to focus on finishing up our last few commissions and then completely revamp our inventory and website. We are closed to new orders at this time.
