Viking Style Bead Festoon with Large Quartz Rock Crystal Focal Bead and Lampwork and Recycled Glass - Norse SCA Medieval LARP
$25.00
Viking Age inspired treasure bead festoons are back! These are designed to hang from the front brooches that hold together the straps of their hangerok or apron-dress of feminine Norse garb of the Viking Age. These are displayed on the chest rather than around the neck, essentially.
These give a very good approximation of the general look of such historical festoons without trying to pin it down to a specific time and place during the Viking Age. Many beads are what I call accidental replicas-- like the focal bead for this strand. Other accidental replicas mass produced lampwork beads that weren't trying to reproduce Viking Age beads but have very nearly done it anyway. A few are more peri-oid then period. Some are made from recycled glass by artisans in Ghana in processes that are really not far off from the historical methods. The result are festoons that are a good choice for those that do not want to, need to, or have the ability to purchase or make true replica beads from a specific date and location.
The beads are strung on heavy duty beading wire and attached to silver-plated closed rings about 3/8" in diameter. The length including the rings is about 12 3/4". As with historical festoons, most of the beads are monochrome glass, with some decorative focal beads. The central clear quartz (rock crystal) focal is just over 1" long.
