This batch has been dyed a purplish gray taupe color with using madder root and an iron mordant.
Madder root (Rubia tinctorum) has been used for millennia as a dyestuff. With various pH levels and mordants, it can produce orange and purple from the first bath and pink, orange, taupe, and grayish purple with the second bath. It usually has some of the best lightfastness and washfastness of all the natural dyes, especially with an iron mordant.
This 2-ply thread can be used for to work various types of embroidery (plies NOT separable as with DMC or similar!), weaving narrow goods, eg, tablet weaving, or tapestry, at approx. 30 ends per inch, and also for braiding techniques such as fingerloop or lucet, and other historical and modern fiber arts. Please select the hank size most appropriate to your project.
