We've searched high and low for just the right beads to bring you this necklace-- these carnelian and clear quartz beads, alternated with each other, showed up repeatedly in Viking Age graves, but they take some work to acquire in the 21st century world.
These beads are not petite. The quartz beads are about an inch long and the carnelians about 3/4", with some variation due to the hand cut nature of the beads. They are strung on strong hemp cord with beeswax worked in by hand to condition and protect. This festoon measures 10 1/2" long from loop to loop, with the beaded portion being about 5 1/2 inches. Strands like this are more common in the archeological record than those that are very long and are completely beaded end to end.
