THESE ARE MADE TO ORDER. Please allow time for these to be created and shipped.
These earrings are patterned after ancient Roman models. Two versions are for sale: one with 3 pearls on each earring, and another with 5 pearls per earring. Both use large, ~9-12mm freshwater pearls. While the originals were solid gold and often forge-tapered, ours are fashioned from thickly gold-plated copper wire to keep them affordable but hypoallergenic. Paired with modern Western attire, they are unique and attention getting. The wire is thicker than most modern earrings at 20 gauge, but thinner than most historical examples, which keeps the weight comfortably distributed in modern pierced ears.
3-pearl version: About 1 3/4" from top to bottom.
5 pearl version: About 2 3/8" from top to bottom.
Historical background: "Romans loved their pearls," is a severe understatement! It was one of their most highly esteemed gemstones, and the more and larger the pearls, the better. While Romans were incredibly creative with their jewelry, certain specific jewelry items were common or even ubiquitous. These are one of those items: we have an entire Pinterest board devoted *just* to portraits and extant archaeological examples showing this specific type of earring!
