This yarn has been dyed with madder root, an ancient and revered dye. Out of all the natural dyes, it is one of the best for resistance to fading by washing and good resistance to light fading. This has been post-treated with an iron mordant to modify the color and further increase the fastness. Many cultures have attributed protective properties to the root and anything dyed with it-- madder dyed yarn has often been used as the string in protective charms, etc. The color is very similar to ground cinnamon, a reddish brown. In the sun the color lights up with the warmest tone; in the shade the undertone reads more brown. This metamerism is typical of natural dyes!
On offer is one hank of thin, crimpy, irregular, handspun single-ply yarn. Some parts are half as thick as my wool embroidery/weaving yarns, and others are twice as thick as those 2/30 yarns. What length? Couldn't honestly say! Hank circumference is 48" and it weighs about 3 oz. It's not strong and knitting or crocheting with it would probably not go well. The best usages for this yarn as is would be poppet or rag doll hair-- perhaps for an archer-princess??-- or yarn hair extensions. It could also be couched down for some very modern and textural embroidery, or plied with itself to increase strength and make it suitable for other applications.
This yarn, like all of my naturally dyed yarns, cannot be matched or reproduced.
If you are looking for the light red/very deep pink hank of yarn shown in some of the photographs, please see this listing: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1131280889/light-red-naturally-dyed-handspun
