It's been a while since we interpreted the medieval and Renaissance jewelry that got us started! Here's a group of pieces whose components are chosen to evoke a set of times and places that shared a certain aesthetic.

This piece pairs small, plump ovoid freshwater ivory pearl beads with hand cut lavender purple amethyst beads, closes with a simple hook clasp, and measures just over 23 inches. Due to its simple design, the enduring appeal of amethyst, and pearls' perennial favor, it's appropriate for a long range of time periods for historical interpretation: the Roman empire, Byzantium, medieval and Renaissance Europe, Victorian times.

Artifacts like this necklace exist from the late Roman Empire. Medieval and early Renaissance ladies wear similar jewels in illuminated manuscripts. Victorians refiltered both these time periods through their own lens. It's an extremely versatile necklace that can also be worn with a wide range of modern attire.
