Naturally Dyed Salmon Pink Silk Ribbon 13mm 1/2" Wide BTY Historical Color with Madder Root Viking Medieval Renaissance Roman Colonial

Naturally Dyed Salmon Pink Silk Ribbon 13mm 1/2" Wide BTY Historical Color with Madder Root Viking Medieval Renaissance Roman Colonial
$2.50
Out of Stock

These gorgeous, salmon-pink ribbons are 13 mm or approximately 1/2" wide, and will elevate anything they embellish. The dye used is more resistant to fading from light than most natural dyes (and more washfast than some modern!).

Madder root is one of the most ancient of dyes, in continuous use since Biblical times. This particular dyeing is based on recipes from the Plictho, a 16th century Italian dyeing manual, in imitation of the madder pink color shown in Vincenzo Campi's late 16th century painting "Kitchen" (see last image). If you are re-enacting the Renaissance or recreating historical textiles, these are an excellent choice for incorporation into your modern artifact. These would be an extremely accurate choice for contrasting color "guards" on the skirt hem or bodice edge of Renaissance attire, beautiful as hair ribbons from medieval times forward, gorgeously authentic for bodice lacing or sleeve attachment, decorative bows on your 18th century stomacher, trim on your Viking Age kit (probably unraveled and rewoven from Byzantine texiles ;)), etc!

PRICING IS PER YARD. You are buying the narrower, SALMON-PINK ribbon shown in the photos. The yellow-orange, wider ribbon is sold out!
