This thread is just a bit lighter than our plain "red" madder dyed wool thread. It is available in 50 yard hanks. This 2-ply thread can be used for weaving narrow goods or tapestry at approx. 30 ends per inch), to work various types of embroidery (plies NOT separable as with DMC or similar!), for braiding techniques such as fingerloop or lucet, and other historical and modern fiber arts.

Madder root (Rubia tinctorum) has been used for millennia primarily as a red, but also for pink, orange, and even purple depending on technique. Of the natural reds, it has probably the best fastness to both light and washing, better than the insect reds and both Eastern and Western brazil woods.
