This necklace is designed after Imperial Roman portraits and artifacts, but this style is also appropriate for ancient Greek, Egyptian, and other ancient world cultures, as well as more forward in time into the Byzantine Empire. The green aventurine beads would have been categorized as smaragdus by the Romans, usually translated as "emerald," but really meaning any strongly green gemstone. The gold tone beads are brass, and the clasp is gold plated. 16 1/2" long.
