This thread has been dyed a pleasing gold color with the skins of yellow onions and an alum mordant. You can't get a much more sustainable source of natural yellow, orange, and green dye for the small scale dyer-- food scraps that would otherwise go to waste! Because onion skin dye is believed to be rich in tannin, it may "fade" to a more brownish hue over the years. (Note: these were dyed in 2017 and do not yet show appreciable color difference.)
This 2-ply thread can be used for to work various types of embroidery (plies NOT separable as with DMC or similar!), weaving narrow goods, eg, tablet weaving, or tapestry, at approx. 30 ends per inch, and also for braiding techniques such as fingerloop or lucet, and other historical and modern fiber arts.
The Golden Schelle is on hiatus in order to focus on finishing up our last few commissions and then completely revamp our inventory and website. We are closed to new orders at this time.
