Each bead or pearl is captured on its own link of very fine handmade wire chain, making the beads seem to float around your neck. This style was common during the Roman/Byzantine Empire. Ivory freshwater pearls alternate with heishi (truncated cylinder) carnelian beads. We are used to seeing carnelian in a darker, almost red image, but it does actually come in this color as well. It's 19" long with a user-friendly gold plated magnetic clasp that looks like a large ornate gold bead.
